Duma Key by Stephen King

I am just finishing Duma Key (2008) and I am very excited to review this book because it is the first King novel I have ever read and it was an incredible book. I wouldn't call myself a "horror fan" but this book has horror and a lot more. The main character, Edgar Freemantel is a building engineer who gets horrifically injured in a crane accident, loses some of his memory; speech and his right arm. He goes to Florida on advice from his psychotherapist because of the depression that almost causes him to take his life. In Florida he begins to paint prolifically, gains a following at the local art gallery and starts selling his paintings for terrific sums. You might say that he paints himself back to life but there are incredible twists in this dark tale of art, monied families and life on the keys. King writes with great verve and you won't be disappointed.
Rating: 4 Stars.

Adult Reading Program

This blog is primarily designed for the Addison Twp Public Library Adult Reading Program. We invite you to post the title and author of the book you read plus a brief description and a rating-1star being lowest and 4 stars being highest. I believe that sharing what I read with others makes reading a more enjoyable experience. I hope that you will also get ideas about future reads from this blog.
